Abstract

The article presents the main research problems and topics to which a special issue of the journal is devoted. The author shows that the study of peripheral urban spaces and communities has a high heuristic potential, since due to less dense government regulation there are opportunities for the emergence of a wide repertoire of practices for using the city. This leads to a dynamic complication of the texture of urban space, the emergence of new localities, communities, and borders
