- Abstract
The article examines the privileges of the shaman and the measures he uses to consolidate his dominant position in society. The shaman’s power is authoritarian, it is based not only on his personal merits, but also on the advantages of his role position. The shaman’s social privileges are secured by the respect of others and at the same time by their certain detachment caused by fear of causing his displeasure. What makes shamanic power authoritarian is the inevitability of retribution following the troubles it causes. According to shamanists, a shaman does not always take revenge on his abusers intentionally, revenge can be carried out regardless of his desire on the initiative of his helper spirits. In the discourse of shamanists, the authoritarian power of the shaman appears as a sacred power exercised through spirits and representing the practical realization of the authoritarian power of spirits over people
