Abstract

The article explores the potential of the Siberian Soviet Encyclopedia (SSE) as a valuable source for studying the history of Siberian art. It analyzes the structure of the encyclopedia, the editorial team, and identifies the body of articles dedicated to visual arts, including painting, graphics, engraving, and architecture. Using the example of detailed analysis of articles on «Painting» and «Graphics and Engraving», the authors demonstrate the systematized approach to the historical development of Siberian art proposed in the encyclopedia in 1929. This includes periodization, names of artists, and stylistic trends. The article emphasizes the uniqueness of the SSE in preserving information about lost or little-known facts of artistic life in Siberia during the first third of the 20th century. The conclusion is drawn about the scientific significance of all four volumes of the encyclopedia as a crucial source for reconstructing the regional cultural, historical context, and the history of art in Siberia
