- Abstract
The advancement of literary text studies opens up new perspectives for the interpretation of texts that act as symbols of national identity. The material for this research is the anthem of the Republic of Cuba. The authors aim to interpret its linguistic and discursive features, to trace the evolution of its current textual version, and to interpret the parameters of its precedent and associative fields. The primary research methods employed include functional-semantic, interpretative, and discourse analysis, as well as linguistic- cultural analysis and cultural commentary. The authors proved that the linguistic features of the anthem of the Republic of Cuba carry symbolic and culture-bound meaning within the parameters of Cuban national identity and serve as the tool to conserve and produce the cultural memory. The Cuban anthem serves as a poetic-musical symbol of the country and, at the same time, as an embodiment of the ideology and collective values of the Cuban people, such as struggle, sacrifice, revolution, patriotism, and dying for the Motherland
