Abstract

At present, there are very few available studies comparing the dendroclimatic potential of chronologies based on multiparametric data of annual rings (tree ring width, early/late wood width, delta blue intensity) for the territory of Russia. Such chronologies are also rare for the study area – the treeline of the mountains of Southern Siberia. The purpose of the present study is to analyze a set of quantitative growth parameters (earlywood width, latewood width, and delta blue intensity) of larch trees (Larix sibirica Ledeb.) growing on 12 sample sites of the constructed network. The results of cluster and correlation analyses showed that regardless of the selected linear parameter of the annual ring, the analyzed network of tree-ring chronologies is divided into two similar large clusters (western and eastern). Thus, the existing network of millennial chronologies for the mountains of Southern Siberia can be combined into two regional tree- ring chronologies, which will most fully reflect the general signal for the study territory. Spatiotemporal analysis of positive and negative extremes of tree ring width (W), early (E) and late wood width (L), and delta blue intensity (∆BI) of regional chronologies for the western and eastern clusters allowed us to determine the dates of 2 positive (1734 and 2010) and 5 negative (1589, 1783–1784, 1788, 1813, and 1884) extremes that occurred simultaneously in early and late wood and corresponded to major climatic anomalies in the study region. Negative extremes demonstrate that, of the major volcanic eruptions of the last millennium, which had a huge impact on the climate of the northern hemisphere and led to a number of catastrophic consequences, the consequences of only two eruptions (Laki – 1783 and Krakatoa – 1883) are clearly traced in Southern Siberia
