- Abstract
Contemporary art expands the boundaries of the concept of “work of art.” Contemporary artists utilize both traditional and innovative materials to create paintings, sculptures, and other art objects. This article examines V. I. Zhukovsky’s collection of sculptures at MAIPA. The author of this collection is a unique individual, combining the qualities of an art object creator and an art historian and researcher. He developed a theory and methodology for art that allows for the uncovering of the meanings of the artistic image emerging in the dialogue between the viewer and the work of art, explaining the purpose of art as a cultural form and its role in human life. This research is based on the application of the method of philosophical and art historical analysis developed by V. I. Zhukovsky. This method allows for a step- by-step approach, beginning with the material status – the materials from which the work is created – through the indexical and inonic to the symbolic – to the idea visualized in the art object
