Abstract

The paper explores the potential of philosophical and art-critical analysis in the research of works of visual art and its application to the educational practice of students at Siberian Federal University. Having examined the theoretical foundations of the method, rooted in the conceptual tenets of the modern theory of fine art by V. I. Zhukovsky and N. P. Koptseva, the authors of the article turn to the characteristics of the method developed by V. I. Zhukovsky for a deeper understanding of the processes of the formation of a work of art as an artistic image. The study defines the method of philosophical and art critical analysis and outlines the rules for applying it to the study of works of visual art. The authors demonstrate the method’s potential for organizing the research activities of art history students, citing examples of how students at SibFU have mastered their skills of art interpretation by practicing philosophical and art critical analysis
