Abstract

This article examines and analyzes the results of migration exchange between the Khakass Autonomous Oblast of Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Central Asian republics of the USSR in the 1960s using archival materials and census data. The quantitative indicators of population arrivals and departures to the region from the Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Turkmen, and Uzbek SSRs and their relationship with socioeconomic processes occurring during the given timeframe are examined. Migration flows are examined by direction, in both urban and rural contexts. The conclusion is reached that the level of migration exchange between the Khakass Autonomous Oblast and the Central Asian republics is relatively low. This is explained by the underdeveloped and deep economic, historical, and sociocultural ties between these regions
