- Abstract
The article presents the results of an empirical study on the formation of human- technology interdependence in everyday life. The primary theoretical foundation is a concept of “human–algorithm interdependence”, supplemented by the theory of technological affordances. The empirical basis of the study consists of interview data collected from Russian-speaking users of smart speakers in Saint Petersburg, Tel Aviv, and Berlin. The data analysis focuses on four key technologies mentioned by the informants: smart speakers, smartphones, search engines, and chatbots based on large language models (exemplified by ChatGPT). The findings indicate that affordances play a significant role in the formation of human- technology interdependence. The following chain was identified: technological property → affordance → interdependence. The study reveals how interdependence is formed, which characteristics and features of different technologies influence this process, and also the role played by affordances. The results highlight the theoretical significance of the concept of interdependence and allow for substantive conclusions. The conclusion outlines directions for further research in the area
