Abstract

In this article a method for utilizing exhaust steam heat in a turbine to reduce specific fuel consumption for electricity and heat generation was examined. It shows the main equipment of the Magadan Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP). It also shows a thermal diagram of a turbine unit used for implementing this method for efficient utilization of turbine exhaust steam heat. We discussed here the design differences between a turbine operating under reduced vacuum and a turbine operating at nominal specifications. Features, advantages, and disadvantages of turbine operation in poor vacuum mode are listed in the article. This article presents methods for exergy analysis of the Rankine cycle power plant operation. It discusses the specific features of methods for exergy assessment of cycle efficiency. The cycle efficiency of the Magadan CHP was calculated and assessed using the entropy method, taking into account exergy losses during the cycle. A classification of exergy losses in the process equipment and plant components is presented here. A comparative analysis of losses has revealed which elements and which equipment in the thermal cycle diagram exhibit similar exergy loss rates when the turbine is running, while other elements exhibit differences under both nominal and poor vacuum conditions. Exergy balance distribution diagrams are shown here for the two turbine operating modes. The presented conclusions indicate that operating the Magadan CHP turbines in poor vacuum mode allows for increasing the exergy efficiency of the cycle to 31.83 %, which is 0.894 % higher than under nominal operating conditions
