- Abstract
The thermochemical process (pyrolysis) as a preliminary stage of biomass utilization in thermal power plants significantly increases the efficiency of heating processes in boiler units, improves environmental performance, and enhances their reliability. Technological possibilities for biomass utilization are expanded by obtaining a range of commercial products from the process. This article compares and analyzes existing methods for the energy utilization of sunflower husks with a promising technology for preliminary thermal treatment of the material. The main advantages of fuel pretreatment are highlighted, including high environmental performance, thermal efficiency, and the expansion of technological possibilities for the use of sunflower husks. A method for thermochemical processing of sunflower husks using pyrolysis at temperatures of 120, 350, and 500 °C is demonstrated, yielding pyrolysis products in the form of pyrolysis gas and carbon residue. A comparison of the experimental setup’s performance and the developed calculation program (in Aspen+ software) is conducted. Based on this comparison, the main reasons for the discrepancies between the setup’s performance and the software model are identified. These discrepancies are related to the difficulty of monitoring the processes occurring within the setup and the inertia of its operation. The practical significance of research and development of technologies that allow for the expansion of the use of sunflower husks is demonstrated
