Abstract

Controlled removal of the solid phase from low-tonnage submerged combustion vaporizer is a necessary condition for their long-term uninterrupted operation. To solve this problem it is proposed to use a central entrainment pipe that captures the suspension near the solid particle nucleation area. In order to determine the optimal entrainment parameters, a series of numerical experiments were provided in which the distance between the combustion chamber nozzle and the entrainment pipe section as well as the pumping velocity were varied. Numerical experiments were carried out in a three-dimensional formulation using the finite volume method. A three-phase liquid-gas-solid particle system is considered. The Euler-Euler approach is used to describe the motion of the liquid and gas phases while the Euler– Lagrange approach is used for the solid phase motion. The detached eddy simulation model was used to calculate the turbulent flow. The interaction between liquid and dense bubble flow was calculated using the empirical Ishii-Zuber correlation. During the research it was found that the operating range of the distances between the nozzle and the cut-off pipe is from three to four nozzle diameters. It has been found that entrainment is most expedient to carry out at a minimum distance between the pipe and the nozzle with maximum entrainment velocity. The conclusion is made about the limited effectiveness of the considered method of controlled sediment removal. Nevertheless the proposed method can be used to reduce the inter-repair mileage of low-tonnage submerged combustion vaporizers
